Strategy In Teaching Listening

Language learning depends on listening. Listening provides the aural input that serves as the basis for language acquisition and enables learners to interact in spoken communication. Effective language instructors show students how they can adjust their listening behavior to deal with a variety of situations, types of input, and listening purposes. They help students develop a set of listening strategies and match appropriate strategies to each listening situation. Listening Strategies Listening strategies are techniques or activities that contribute directly to the comprehension and recall of listening input. Listening strategies can be classified by how the listener processes the input. Top-down strategie s are listener based; the listener taps into background knowledge of the topic, the situation or context, the type of text, and the language. This background knowledge activates a set of expectations that help the listener to interpret what is heard and antic

My Learning Insights

Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening are the four macro skills. They play a very vital role in the Intellectual and Academical improvement of a person. I personally consider these four as essential skills that I must develop for my improvement. I also believe that being equipped with these skills would be a very big advantage of everyone from different fields.    As a college student I am rest assured that I am good in reading. I can also speak and write. But in situations like seminars, forums and even in my usual classes, I realized that my listening skills should be develop and still needs a thorough improvement. I could testify this, because I usually had a difficult time jotting or taking-down notes and even remembering the information I heard. It is said that  hearing and listening are two different process and I think I am more on hearing.    Way back to my early school years I can't remember if we we're taught on how to listen effectively or even given some hints

Teaching Listening

Listening skills are vital for your learners. Of the 'four skills,' listening is by far the most frequently used. Listening and speaking are often taught together, but beginners, especially non-literate ones, should be given more listening than speaking practice. It's important to speak as close to natural speed as possible, although with beginners some slowing is usually necessary. Without reducing your speaking speed, you can make your language easier to comprehend by simplifying your vocabulary, using shorter sentences, and increasing the number and length of pauses in your speech. There are many types of listening activities. Those that don't require learners to produce language in response are easier than those that do. Learners can be asked to physically respond to a command (for example, "please open the door"), select an appropriate picture or object, circle the correct letter or word on a worksheet, draw a route on a map, or fill in a chart as they

The Real Sacrifice

Image
The Lord is their strength, And he is the saving refuge of his anointed. Stated in the book of Psalm 28:8. This was the bible verse I pondered upon my witness to the courage of these people as they exalt God amidst the adversities of their situation. They fit themselves into this very small room, a living room of one of the member of the church who voluntarily shared their resources in the fulfillment of the purpose which is to spread the gospel of Christ. They have a limited number of chairs to cater every thirsty soul that seeks for peace and salvation through God's help and sovereignty. They can hardly read every text in the Bible because of the blurriness of the vicinity,if they only have a light to illuminate the room, they could better understand what the Bible wants to convey. I deeply admire every member of this congregation in their courage to continue to serve God considering the difficulties that they have to experience just to listen to God's mess

The Lonely Confession

Image
Here, alone with myself staring at the gloomy sky feeling all the pain that this loneliness bring. I watch as leaves fell down on the darkness of ground, I saw leaves as it slowly driven away by the furious air that it seems getting farther and farther, and suddenly, I felt something is missing inside me. I shout for relief, yes! some didn't hesitate to stretch their compassionate hands, but I seemed can't escaped by the cage of loneliness. It pushes me to get away, to bring myself farther, to hide myself deeper, and yes! I still suffer.
