FILM ANALYSIS: Aishite Imasu 1941:Mahal Kita

Aishite Imasu 1941:Mahal Kita

The Film Aishite Imasu revolved between three people: Inya, Edilberto and Ignacio. The three are childhood friends, then later on Edilberto(Raymart Santiago) fell in love with Inya(Judy Ann Santos) while Ignacio(Dennis Trillo)grew up being a womanish guy. The story took place during the world war II and the Japanese invasion in the Philippines. Ignacio who prefers to wear woman clothing fascinated the Japanese Captain Ichiru, played by Jay Manalo, upon their arrival in the country. Since Ignacio also had a romantic desire with Edilberto, which was a Guerilla leader, accepted his request to continue to pretend as woman and serve as a spy to the Japanese. Edilberto's family were assassinated by the Japanese and caused him to revenge against the conqueror's and later on changed him into a dauntless and revengeful man. Edilberto was killed and Inya continued His battle against the Japanese. Eventually, Ignacio learned to love Ichiru ,who as well truly love Ignacio being a gay, stopped spying the Japanese and was treated as a traitor towards the Filipinos. At the end Ichiru killed himself to redeem his honor, Edilberto died and left Inya and Ignacio also died in saving his best friend Inya.

The film showcased an unusual love story which existed amidst the the Japanese-Filipino war. It also showed patriotism towards the country and to until when a person will fight for the people, love ones, rights and freedom. Its about showing love and loyalty and sacrifices of a man for the country. The film also showed a unusual love story of two men from the different culture, somehow it may have an implied symbolism, which is for me, it tells us that love is for every body, once a person felt it, it could blind a persons eyes and can't see nothing but the delight it brings, meaning it really speaks for the fact that love is powerful that even imperfections can be covered by its shadow. On the other hand, the film successfully showed a part of the history during the Japanese invasion. It could even open the eyes of its viewer specifically the Filipinos how things were like then. The costumes, the view and the life portrayed on the film could really impassion every Filipino on how these people sacrificed and shed their blood just to redeem our freedom against the foreign conquerors.

The film, aside from its amorous material, really fascinated me. The scenes are really filled with outpouring emotions, that would really excite the viewers to hold on every scenes. The actors had really put justice on the characters they are portraying. It would tear our eyes, make us laugh, excite, angry and giggle us with some awkward scenes, especially to the romance of Dennis Trillo and Jay Manalo. But more than its physical substance, what should be noted is the message it desired to convey. And we might have different interpretations, but whats important is, it has touched our hearts, awakened patriotism and nationalism within ourselves.

The film would inform as with our history and to a better extent, would equip us with necessary information that could make us be more proud for who we are, as being Filipinos. Because of the sacrifices that our forefathers done to redeem ourselves from foreign invaders and conquerors and on how we greatly deserve to be free. Therefore, being Filipinos we are endowed to appreciate and take care for the freedom that we clothed today because of the many Filipino people who sacrificed their lives for us to enjoy it today.
